You always hear organizers say, ”label, label, label.” That’s because it’s so important. It’s also a step most people overlook. Here’s four reasons to label. You’ll benefit because ...


1. It makes for faster retrieval

2. It ensures accuracy in putting things away

3. It saves time when you’re looking for an item

4. It keeps a house full of people all on the same system

What if grocery stores didn’t label their aisles? What if Amtrak didn’t label their train station platforms? What if the YMCA didn’t label the pool depths on the side walls? What if clothing makers didn’t mark their clothes S, M, L or XL? My point is proven. Label.

What label maker should you buy? Glad you asked. You don’t have to buy one. Companies like Avery make a host of different labels which you can feed through your home printer. If you’d like to buy one,  my favorite brand is Brother. I have the cheapest one I believe for $19.99, which I bought at Office Max. I don’t need all the bells and whistles in a more expensive one. My small one does the trick. Dymo is their competitor and they offer a large selection as well. Tot tags are super creative as well as Storage Bin Labels. They are both worth a try.
