Consequences of a Cluttered Life
Clutter Consequences
Topics
Someone wrote me on Facebook and asked if I’d blog about the consequences of a cluttered life. The topic is not super positive by any means but none the less, it’s important and it’s a reality. I’m sure most people would agree that when our lives, homes, workplaces, cars, or relationships are filled with clutter, consequences are the result. I would like to be clear that I’m not singling out “people” to blame or point fingers at. I’m merely writing about how I’ve seen clutter impact those around me in a negative way.
So let’s take those areas of our lives and look at them one at a time.
The consequences of clutter at/in:
Home result in....
- the inability to eat dinner at the table as a family beacause of clutter on the table
- the inability to prepare meals because coutertops are too full
- missing important mail/bills and as a result, losing money because of late fees and overdrafts
- not allowing kids to have friends over because the house is too messy
- wasted time looking for lost socks, mittens, toys, tools, etc. because nothing has a true “home"
- wasted time moving/shifting clutter to make room for more stuff, people, etc....
- overbuying because one doesn’t know what they already have
- the inability to get cars off the street into a garage because so much stuff is piled in the garage
Work result in...
- losing one’s job
- low productivity and efficiency thus getting a poor review
- wasted time which results in wasting the employers resources and dollars
- being late to work and late in making deadlines
- coworkers not being able to rely on or trust the employee with something important
Car result in...
- low gas mileage and extra costs from lugging heavier weight around from clutter in the trunk
- less or no room for passengers, groceries, and unexpected cargo
- an accident (I once saw a van that had so much paper/mail on the dashboard that you could barely see out while driving- that’s just dangerous)
Relationships result in....
- arguments, mistrust, disappointment
- separation, divorce,
- a disconnected family
- financial strain/worries as a result of family member over shopping
After all that bad news, the good news is that there’s hope. If a person in a cluttered situation wants help and desires a change professional organizers all over the country are ready and willing to help. We love to get rid of clutter in all types of situations.
