Speed Organizing

Ever experienced speed dating? You know- you meet alot of people in a short amount of time. Well today I did some speed organizing. I was in a home office and just like other offices I’ve been in, it had it’s share of piles and bins of stuff. I actually like this type of organizing because you see huge results in a little amount of time and I like to move fast. So we zipped around the room in 3 hours sorting all the contents we could get our hands onto. Now of course by no means was there time to build comprehensive mail systems or filing systems but we did get through all of the stuff and piles- the floor was clear, the desk top was paper free, and bookshelves and cabinets were organized. Sometimes it helps to get the big picture under control by doing speed organizing so you can then later slow down, focus on the details, and take time to build efficient and effective systems. Speed dating resembles the same flow- after speed dating you go out with one or two people to get to know them better over longer periods of time. Who’d have thought dating and organizing having similarities.
