Mail- Don’t avoid it, attack it!

I’ve don’t think I’ve ever met a client who enjoys getting and opening mail. Most people loathe it. Some don’t even open it and I open it for them. Having gone through stacks and stacks of mail over the last 5.5 years, I think the 80/20 rule applies- eighty percent is junk mail/ unnecessary and a waster of paper. And twenty percent is worth keeping, filing, or attending to. So if you avoid the mail like the swine flu try doing just these baby steps.
1. right after taking the mail out of the mailbox walk right to the garbage can
2. open up every sealed envelope (even if you know it’s a bank statement or bill)
3. toss as much as you can into a large garbage can (even all the filler advertisements inside the bills and bank statements)
4. shred all the credit card offers and sweepstake scams right away (this is key)
5. put the 20% (the keepers) into one basket or bin until you make the time to file, pay bills, and follow through with action items
