Treasure Hunt and Dump

Treasure Hunt and Dump is my slogan and solution in the following situation. Often times while organizing toys rooms or kid’s rooms, we (normally a mom and myself) come across large containers chest, Rubbermaid bins, or oversized baskets/bags which are full of toys. After pulling out the big toys, recognizable large items, and miscellaneous socks we’re usually left with a layer of random debris at the bottom of the container. The debris consists of pennies, Lego’s, Barbie shoes, shiny stones, pieces of scrap paper, old sunglasses- anything random that you can think of. So this is where we treasure hunt and dump. I ask the mom- “what is absolutely critical that we pull out at this time before we dump it all in the trash?” after pulling out maybe 3-5 things tops, we’re ready to dump the layer of dirt and debris and move onto the next tub. This hunt and dump practice will save you a ton of time and will help keep you sane instead of sorting out every Barbie shoe or Lego. This works for junk drawers as well!
