- Take one morning to pull out all school supplies- paper, pens, folders. Gather it from all over the house, or if you’re organized J go to that one spot where you keep school supplies. Take inventory of what you do and don’t have. THEN take the kids shopping. When they are begging you for something you already have you can say, “We have that at home.”
- Take 30 min.-1 hour per child and spend that time alone with your child going through their closets/dressers. First make sure the laundry room is empty and all their clothes are at least in their room. They don’t have to be organized – just present. J See what fits, what doesn’t, what’s needed, and then make your shopping list. Now you’re ready to shop and there’s a bonus- you’ve given one on one attention to each child. Don’t forget to donate those old clothes!
- A tip strictly for mom- buy yourself a three ring hole binder with pockets, a box of clear 3 hole sheet protectors, and a packet of 3 holed tab dividers. Build your own organizing tool you can carry with you in the car or keep in the kitchen. Divide sections by your children’s names. Then fill sheet protectors in between the tabs with all the paper you get from school activities. All schedules, reminders, activities, announcements can be stored under the child it belongs to. When an event or practice schedule is over just toss out the paper and fill the sheet protector with a new activity/announcement.
