Managing time- An Impossible Task

Author, speaker, and organizer Harold Taylor is known in the organizing world as the time management guru. I’ve met Mr. Taylor, taken a class by him, and read his books. In my opinion he really explains time management clearly. I’ve decided to give you some quotes from his book “Making Time Work for You” over the next couple of days.

“Unfortunately, it’s impossible to manage time.... No matter how you measure it, how you describe it, or how you use it, time cannot be influenced by any person on this eath. All we can ever hope to do is to manage ourselves with respect to time.

Whenever we want to perform some task that we are not presently doing, we have to displace other activities to make room for it. And therein lies the secret of what is referred to as effective time management. To be effective we must displace less important tasks with more important ones. We can’t wait until we have time to take on another task. We will never have any more time than we have right now. What we have to do is free up some of the time we have by eliminating non-productive or low priority activities and quickly replacing them with more valuable activites.”

I love this quote because so many people who call or email me say, I have no time to organize. What Harold Taylor is saying is yes you do. You just have to stop doing something that is non- productive which is wasting your time that could be used to organize.  What are your thoughts on this?
