Managing Time- The Importance Factor

Yesterday I wrote about the impossibility of managing time. And in Harold Taylor’s quote we learned we have to manage ourselves and tasks in respect to time. Many people claim: I don’t have the time to work out, cook dinner, organize, file those papers, etc.... yesterday Harold Taylor challenged and said “yes you do”. He said eliminate non-productive, low priority activities. Here’s another quote:

“Well you have time. It’s being utilized on activities that can be eliminated. Believe it. Before you can start eliminating or condensing the unimportant activities in your life, you must have a clear understanding of what the important activities are. What is important to you? That’s what time management is all about. The accomplishment of significant goals at the expense of those unimportant, time consuming activities. “

So I ask you- what’s important to you?

Here’s what is important to me and any activity that eats up my time to accomplish these is completely worthwhile .

  • my marriage- spending quality time with my husband each week
  • my sleep- if I don’t get 9 hours each night, I feel tired, unproductive and pretty much useless all day.
  • my business- accomplishing my business goals for 2009
  • my clients- I love what I do and I love spending time organizing with my clients
  • my spiritual life- I wouldn’t be who I am today if it wasn’t for spending time reading my Bible, praying and attending church. So that’s super important to me.
