Declutter your Inbox

Let’s be honest. How many emails are in your inbox right now? Fifty? Two hundred fifty? More than that? Clutter comes in all shapes and sizes and one type is email. Here’s some suggestions for handling incoming email.

10 Tips to Beat Email Overload

  1. If you can delegate that request or project, forward the email on to someone else.
  2. Don’t print emails. That’s the biggest waste of paper and adds your desk clutter.
  3. Act and decide as fast as possible. The longer you sit on something the longer it lingers as clutter.
  4. If you use outlook and receive a “to do” email, transfer right into Outlook as a task.
  5. Don’t reply to every email you receive.
  6. Check all the emails from one person or one group before responding.
  7. Set aside certain times of the day to check email.
  8. Use the delete button as often as possible. Don’t worry, the email will be sitting in your deleted folder.
  9. Create helpful, relevant folders to file emails if you need to save an email. Don’t go crazy with fifty folders. Keep it to a maximum of 10-15 folders.
  10. If you’re behind in deleting and have hundreds, if not thousands of emails, either go cold turkey and delete them all of set a goal to go through 25-50 each day till you’re caught up. You can do it!
