Organizing Deadlines Prevent Procrastination
Sometimes a deadline in the form of a holiday is a good thing. I hear things like, by Christmas I’d like to…. In my opinion, that’s a good thing. Giving yourself a deadline helps and prevents procrastination. Below I’ve compiled some projects that would be helpful to accomplish before or by Christmas. Now please don’t think I’d adding to your to do list. You don’t have to do these things. For some, this will inspire a burst of energy to tackle one small thing that is left unfinished. That’s who I’m speaking to.
- Tidy up your guest room. What’s a better excuse then Christmas? If you have a few piles or boxes in the room, now’s your chance to go through them and fire things out once and for all. Keep only what’s essential and only what you use. Use under bed storage and closets to neatly store the essentials.
- Mark down time on your calendar to go through toys with or without the kids. Old toys are taking up space where new toys could be stored. Donate anything they’ve outgrown or don’t play with on a regular basis. It’s also a great way to teach kids they can’t get new things without getting rid of some old things.
- As you set out Christmas decorations, fill the empty boxes and bins with your year round decorations and knick knacks. Too much stuff on bookshelves, coffee tables, and mantels doesn’t show off Christmas decorations. So put the every day stuff away. When Christmas is over you’ll unpack it and put the Christmas stuff away in the bins.
- Now is the right time to donate Christmas decorations to Goodwill and Salvation Army. If you wait till after Christmas it’s too late. Most charities won’t take Christmas decorations after the holiday because they don’t have the room to store stuff it for 11 months.
- Somehow over the years, cookie tins and Christmas plates start to add up. If you don’t use up your stash of tins and plates this year by giving them away filled with cookies, don’t pack them back up. Tins take up a lot of room in storage and start to rust over time.
- Hunt for presents in your own home. If you like to shop, chances are you probably bought gifts through out the year that you haven’t given yet. Start wrapping those first before buying what’s on your Christmas list.
