3 Essentials for Organizing Kids’ Closets
We just finished the fall season here in Chicago, so I found myself digging through many kid’s closets, dresser drawers, and rooms. It’s hard enough keeping up with clothes they outgrow but here in Chicago we also have to keep up with four seasons.
If you want to control the revolving door of clothes and shoes, try these three essential tools. Three containers. Yes, it’s that simple. Either place three containers on a shelf side by side or three containers on the floor of the closet. Each functions as a very important of the system.
- One will fill up with clothes and shoes they’ve outgrown. Those will be designated for charity.
- The second will fill up with keepsakes. Perhaps, it’s their first communion dress, or the outfit they came home from the hospital in. Whatever the case, this can hold any keepsake item (not paper). I’ll get to paper in my next blog. Paper doesn’t belong in the bedroom closet.
- The third container will hold clothes they haven’t grown into yet. If you buy clothes on sale that don’t currently fit your child or if you receive hand me downs place them here in this container in their bedroom closet.
From my experience, this system is tried and true. Don’t forget to label the bins and actually take the clothes to charity from container number 1. Also be careful not to go overboard with keepsakes and clothes they will grow into. Be mindful of the closet space and stick within that parameter.
