My Swap Party

Host a Party to Declutter

About a week ago I had 10 of my friends over for a swap party. It started with the idea from a client who told me about her swap party. So I got to thinking and because my mom and sisters and I are really into “theme” parties, I picked the theme of jewelry. The plan was to swap jewelry. The evite went out and to entice people to come I added in that we’d make banana splits. Many friends had never heard of a swap party so the name in and of itself caught their attention to come out and join the fun.

A few nights before the party my mom, sister and I all went through our jewelry boxes and pulled items we really didn’t wear anymore or care for. I got the dining room table ready by spreading out a clean, white tablecloth for people to display their jewelry. Friday night came and each woman unveiled and laid out their jewelry. I heard many oohhs and aahhhs. At eight o’clock the swapping began. We eat pulled numbers to start us off. After each woman took a turn to pick their favorite piece and then we opened up the swapping-whoever wanted something just took it. Ladies were trying necklaces on and deciding which necklace or ring or bracelet would look good with clothes back in their closet.

At the end of the evening many ladies commented that they’d like to have another swap- this time a book swap. We’ll see. It should be interesting. We all left that night with new pieces of jewelry and an uncluttered jewelry box at home. Most took less home than they came with and none of us spent a dime.

Have you ever hosted a swap party? If so, what did you swap? If not, are you going to plan one?
