Small changes increase office organization
- Tie up all loose cords. Better yet, tie them up and label them. Your office will appear more organized in minutes.
- Create printed file folder labels and hanging folder tabs. Printing these out on your computer will save you lots of time while filing.
- Keep a shredder under or next to your desk.
- Use a desk drawer organizer. It makes finding staples, paper clips, and binder clips a lot easier.
- Before you leave the office, put away every paper that is out floating around on your desk . Even if you work from home, make this a habit.
- Consider using a bulletin board. If you use a list of numbers, people, or passwords over and over, post these papers right up in front of you on a bulletin board.
- Delete emails and voicemail messages as often as possible. Follow through immediately with calls and emails so that you don’t have to hang onto them to remind you to take care of it later.
- Use a kitchen timer to keep you focused. Set it to clear your desk, clean out your email inbox, complete a project, or get in some blogging time.
- Color code your tickler files or action files on your desk. Red could stand for urgent or “red hot”. Pick colors that remind you what type of paper is inside.
