Rotating clothes is at the top of my to do list this weekend. Last night I slept in socks, a long sleeve shirt and pants. That’s a good indication that the heat will soon be turned on and the drawers and closet contents switched over. Even my husband commented, “Looks like it’s time to get the winter clothes out.” By that, he means, I better get on top of organizing the drawers and clothes.
So if you are like me, I can’t fit all my clothes from all seasons into my existing dresser and closet. They just won’t all fit. As a solution, I tub up the off season clothes and store them in the basement. Two tubs for me and two for my husband. Then twice a year I dig through them and swap seasons. The system works. I don’t love it but hey, not everyone can have a huge walk in closet. That’ just not realistic.
A good indicator to letting go of clothes, is listen, recognize and say aloud your initial reaction to pulling out clothes. I often think these thoughts:
“Oh that’s cute; can’t wait to wear that. “
“That will go well with that new skirt I just bought, etc.”
“Wow that looks frumpy.”
“Ah man, that sweater is so pilled."
“Did this shrink?”
Resist the urge to just stuff everything into the closet and drawers right away. Pay attention to your reactions and act on them. Good luck and let me know how it goes!
