Amber’s Home and Office Organizing Blog index
Forcing Organization
Today the insulation guy is coming over. He’s going to tell my husband and I how we can reduce the cold and heat upstairs on our second floor. We live in a cape cod style home so we have some dormers on the east side of the house but the west side has small short closet space in the eaves. It’s helpful storage but I don’t really put anything in their that is of utmost importance to us. It’s dusty and obviously super cold and super hot in the different Chicago seasons.
So as I was getting rid for him, I started pulling out my stuff, boxes, old papers. I realized this stuff is clutter and I’ve got to make a decision before I shove this stuff back into the space. I’m sure you can relate if you’ve ever torn apart your attic, closets, or crawl space. In my excavation, I found my wedding dress, old college books and papers, old running jerseys and t-shirts from our college days, my medical boot, and my journals. I wrote in journals for about twelve years of my life so boxes of them are in abundance. I’m definitely ready to let some of this go. I cam almost place a bet on what my husband is going to say, “yes, you’re right Amber we never look at this stuff BUT it’s not hurting anyone. It’s not bothering us in there.” He is right in a way but why keep it if you’re not going to appreciate it or use it or display it?
I just think it’s funny that one appointment with a service man starts an organizing project. How about you? What organizing project have you recently uncovered because of an appointment with a service person? Did it force you to get organizing?
