Choosing to Spend your Time Differently
You’ve got time. Twenty-four hours of time each and every day. You have the same amount of time as the President Obama, Lady Gaga, Richard Gere, and any other famous or important person you can think of. That’s the good news. We all are on a even playing field when it comes to time. We can’t add minutes to the day or take away hours away.
Here’s where things start to change. All of us spend our time differently. Each of us are in control of spending our time however we want. I bring this topic up because about half the people I talk to say they don’t have time to get organized. That statement really isn’t true. They are just choosing to spend time on other things instead of organizing. That’s not a bad thing and I’m not trying to make anyone feel guilty. Facts are facts. And the fact that you may not spend time organizing is okay. No one is judging you.
What I do want you to think about it, where are you spending your time? What is taking up your time? Before you give a quick reply, stop and think about it. How we spend our time also points out our priorities. You can quickly determine what you value by looking at how you spend your time. Sometimes we, me included, run around all day busier than ever without realizing what really is important to us. And more times than not, we aren’t spending time on the things that we say are important.
You may want to organize your garage, home or office, OR you may not. That’s just fine. You might what to train for a marathon or build a dollhouse for your daughter or read a book series this year. All of those require time and all of those would require you to take something out of your day to have time to spend on those endeavors. It’s the same principle with getting organized. More time doesn’t suddenly appear to get organized. You just take something else out of the picture.
What do you want to take out of your day? What do you want to add in? If it’s organizing I’d love to help!
