Keeping Track of School & Sports Team Photos

Today I was helping a mother of five sift through her kids photos. Her second oldest is getting ready to head off to college this fall and she’d like to make a scrap book of his high school years. Besides that son, she has four other children spanning college to preschool ages. All of them play sports and go to private schools so team and class photos abound. Almost every semester sports photos and class photos are landing in her kitchen.

We came up with a system that seems to get the job done. Each child gets one 9x12 flat photo box. All class pictures, school photos and sports team professional pictures are stored in the box. We removed the plastic and filler paper to save space in the box. All these boxes are stored in a closet in room temperature. I’d never suggest putting photos in the basement or attic. Now let me clarify, every day photos snapped while the kids are in the classroom or are dressed up at their Halloween class party are not in these boxes. Those standard 4x6 photos are organized by year and stored in Creative Memories Power Sorter Boxes. All the family photos taken by a professional photographer at Christmas time or for special occasions also get their own 9x12 flat box. These oversized, special shots deserve their own space and protection from getting crushed. So to some it up: all you need to tackle your photos are flat photo boxes for large photos and photo boxes, my pick would be the Creative Memory boxes.

Happy Photo Organizing!
