Creating Special Storage Spots for Baby

Expecting your first baby? With a slow housing market, many couples are choosing to stay put in their condo or apartment. It may be easier to organize, downsize, and make room for a new family member instead of selling and buying a home. Prep and organize space around the home to make the tranisition smoother and easier. Here’s a few tips to get you started.

On the Bookshelf: Pregnancy and parenting books as well as parenting magazines need some space on your bookshelf or in your night stand. Keep it practical. Place these where you’ll end up reading them.

Under the coffee table: Keep a stash of rattles, pacifiers and baby toys in a small basket or container in the family room. Swap out new ones on a regular basis if you have more in the nursery.

In the garage: Make room for large items such as a the stroller, pack n’ play, car seat, wagon, etc. Shop for baby gear that can be hung or can collaspe to make storing these as simple as possible.

Under the bathroom sink: Thankfully, babies and kids don’t need a lot of tolietries. All you’ll need is bath wash, washcloth and towel. As they get older, add a small stash of bath toys, toothbrushes and toothpaste.

In the nursery: Baby’s keepsakes start early. Pick out a mediumed size keepsake box to gather all their first mementos such as the hospital bracelet, first picture, the hat they wear home from the hospital, first baptism paperwork and all the congratulations cards from loved ones welcoming them into the world.

Inside the kitchen cabinets: Clear a shelf for formula, bottles, sippy cups, kid size bowls and plates.  A small basket or bowl would be helpful to collect all the small bottle pieces and medicine dispensers. Don’t forget to clear a little space a drawer for a few bibs too.

At the entryway: The diaper bag, car seat, and stroller often takes up the front foyer or entryway. Plan ahead by deciding where these will be stashed each day. Consider outside in the hallway if neighbors or the condo association allows it. Clearing floor space in a front hall closet also might be a good option.
