Keeping Your Wallet Current
I was reminded this morning why my job matters and why it’s important to be organized. Never leave home without proof of car insurance. The poor guy who rear ended me this morning learned the hard way. As I was making a right turn and yielding to oncoming traffic he crept up and rear ended me thinking I was going to turn. Well, I didn’t because there were too many cars coming and then it happened. My car was barely damaged but his had a lot of cracks and damage. Thankfully he was nice about it and right away started pulling out his information to swap with each other. Soon after a state policeman showed up and called a policeman from the suburb we were in. As we waited for the policeman to show up, he made small talk with me and asked what I do for a living. I told him I’m a professional organizer and am now late for my clients who were waiting for me to organize. We talked further and I found out that his current proof of insurance wasn’t in his wallet. It reminded me of all the times, I’m sifting through client paperwork and find their current insurance card. At least a dozen times, I’ve passed them on to the client and had them put the card in their wallet immediately. He smiled and laughed and said that’s what he didn’t do. Sure enough, he ended up getting a ticket not only for rear ending me but for not having current proof of insurance. It’s a hard lesson learned on his part but perhaps a good reminder for you as you read this blog. Pull out your wallet and check your insurance cards. While you’re at it, empty your wallet and pitch as many receipts and old cards as possible. Hopefully your Friday morning was better than mine. Drive safe!
